Cuckoo tricks the Hedge - Textile Embroidery Hanging
A richly layered textile hanging built from antique fabrics, patterned scraps and thick stitched layers that give the whole piece a sculpted, relief‑like surface. True to my usual style, nothing is straight or formal – it leans into a gentle, wonky folk‑art character full of colour, texture and movement.
The embroidered Cuckoo is worked in rayon threads with a soft sheen, and the design itself focuses on the bird’s feather pattern and shifting tones. Across the surface, the stitched words “Cuckoo tricks the hedge” echo old stories and the years when the Cuckoo’s call was a familiar herald of spring — now rarely heard.
Constructed as an antique fabric collage, it carries the decorative richness of a small tapestry. Hanging loops are stitched into the top for displaying on a simple dowel rod, or the loops can be removed if you prefer to frame it. It arrives presented on mount board and can be lifted away easily when you’re ready to display it.
Dust lightly with a soft brush and keep out of strong sunlight due to the age of the materials. Colours may vary slightly in photographs.
