Is an Embroidery Artist based in Devon, UK
Chloe lives near Honiton, Devon on the edge of the Blackdown Hills. Her background combines a degree in art history and many years working in the graphic design, embroidery and print industry. Chloe's work combines the intricacy and texture of machine embroidery with layers of fabric and paper collage. Inspiration comes from nature and her surroundings and a love of illustration, pattern, traditional folk art and art history. The central motif from a sketch, drawing or photo becomes the focus for a more complex machine embroidered design. This detailed and specific approach is then juxtaposed with a much looser way of working: building up layers of collage combining scraps of old fabric, prints, handmade paper and stitched detail.
All original pieces are mounted with acid-free antique-white mount board and often double-mounted due to the raised textured nature of the image. Frames are in 3/4 inch flat light oak moulding as a rule. This soft neutral shade complements most pieces and ensures the focus is drawn to the subject matter. Chloe sells her work direct to the public at fairs and exhibitions throughout the year, and also to commission.
If you have a favourite bird or a pet you would like to immortalise in stitch, she can work from a good photo or combination of photos. Simply fill in your details on the Contact page.
